The 3‑Question Filter

I find that most “big decisions” feel overwhelming because we try to hold everything at once. Over the years, I’ve used this simple 3‑Question Filter with executives, founders, and parents juggling work and life - and it always cuts through the noise:
- What are the 2–3 dominoes that matter most?
- Not every outcome is equal.
- Ask: “If this decision worked out perfectly, what 2–3 things would change?” Write them down.
- Who needs to be heard, not just consulted?
- Power isn’t always in the title.
- Ask: “Who will live with this the longest? Who can quietly sink this?”
- Map their energy, not just their role.
- What version of yourself do you want to show up as?
- This is the coach‑heart part.
- Ask: “When this is done, will I feel proud of how I handled it… or just relieved it’s over?”
Try this next time you’re stuck...
Write just 1 sentence under each question.
Then read only those three sentences and ask: “Which one makes the decision feel clearer?”
🏹 Which of the three questions feels the hardest to answer right now? Drop it in the comments
🏹 Hint: it’s not which question is hardest, it’s which one you’re avoiding the most.
